Academic Readiness Program at Little Oaks Academy
Empowering Children to Become Independent Learners for Life

At Little Oaks Academy, we believe that every child deserves a strong, confident, and independent start to their academic journey. Our Academic Readiness Program is a unique, school-integrated initiative designed for children at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Developmental Delays (DD), and other neurodevelopmental conditions. This 2-hour daily program is a school readiness accelerator, built to ensure that children are academically prepared and independent in core skills like reading, writing, and mathematics before they transition into formal schooling.

Unlike conventional early intervention or therapy-only programs, this is a school-based curriculum that incorporates therapeutic strategies directly into academics. Children are taught within a structured classroom environment that mirrors mainstream schooling—giving them not only the tools but also the confidence and routine required for success in formal education.

Why This Program Matters

Children with learning delays or developmental challenges often struggle with:

  • Reading comprehension and fluency
  • Writing expression and handwriting
  • Classroom behaviors and executive functioning

Our program is designed to bridge these gaps early—before formal schooling begins. By focusing on essential academic and behavioral foundations, we reduce dependency on adult support in future classrooms.

What Makes This a True School Program

Our Academic Readiness Program is not a standalone intervention; it's a comprehensive, structured academic program that builds independence in:

  • Pre-literacy to early reading
  • Pre-writing to independent written expression
  • Pre-numeracy to conceptual mathematics

Through daily classroom routines, group interactions, play-based academics, and individual support, the child learns how to learn—which is the first and most crucial skill for lifelong success.

Core Academic Domains Covered

1. Reading Skills

We help children:

  • Build pre-reading skills (phonemic awareness, letter-sound matching)
  • Recognize sight words and decode CVC words
  • Comprehend stories and follow guided reading sessions
  • Develop independent reading confidence
2. Writing Development

Children learn to:

  • Strengthen hand muscles for pencil grip and letter formation
  • Write names, words, and simple sentences
  • Use pictures and words to express thoughts
  • Structure ideas in guided sentence writing and story building
3. Mathematical Foundations

We cover:

  • Pre-numeracy (counting, sequencing, comparisons)
  • Core concepts (addition, subtraction using visual aids)
  • Shapes, patterns, and spatial understanding
  • Problem-solving using real-life contexts

Preparing for Independence – Not Just Progress

We believe academic success comes not just from knowing the content—but from mastering the process of learning and doing independently. That’s why our program places special focus on:

  • Following multi-step instructions without prompts
  • Engaging in classroom activities without 1:1 support
  • Transitioning smoothly between tasks and environments
  • Completing worksheets and academic tasks independently
  • Asking for help appropriately and participating in discussions

Our ultimate goal is to prepare your child to walk confidently into any school classroom—ready to read, write, count, and engage without the need for extra shadow support or constant guidance.

Parental Involvement: A Key to Lasting Success

We partner with families to reinforce classroom learning at home. Parents receive:

  • Monthly workshops and hands-on strategy sessions

  • Behavior and communication tools for home use
